Wendy Leitmanis's Bio
Most of my working life has revolved around the health industry, both in a hospital environment and in complimentary health. I have always been inspired to encourage people in their quest for health and wellness; to bring back a sense of ease to the body.
Bowen therapy has been the core of my practice for the past 14 years. I began my training in 2000 and completed Diploma and specialised procedures over the next several years.
Bowen therapy is gentle bodywork used to treat injuries, re-balance the body and calm the nervous system. Areas of muscle tension and skeletal imbalance are identified and treated with specific moves which assist in reduction of pain and inflammation, and improvement in range of movement and flexibility. A Bowen treatment involves direct moves over muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, and joints. It is both subtle and dynamic in its influence on the body's health and wellbeing.
In 2012 I began to explore another process, Tension and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE). TRE encourages a gentle release of chronic tension, stress or trauma, and helps to regulate the nervous system to a calmer, balanced state. I have gained a deep appreciation for this therapy, and the benefits it offers. It is a stand-alone process, but can be used in conjunction with Bowen therapy. Once learned, it becomes a valuable resource you can use freely any time you need to calm the body, and release tension.
My initial training as a nurse was in 1981. Through 22 years of clinical practice (Geelong Hospital) I developed valuable skills in patient care, sound observational skills and a good understanding of wellness, illness, and injuries of the body. Modern medicine offers valuable treatment for accident and illness; but it is because of my nursing experience that I became very passionate about the need for safe, effective complimentary therapies to support individuals on a day to day basis.
I have always been inspired to encourage people in their quest for health and wellness; to bring back a sense of ease. Through my long and rewarding journey I have found two therapies that satisfy my need to offer gentle and highly effective support for ongoing wellbeing.
